Bologna

We love Italy! Great food, great culture, great historic places, and supercars. This time we chose Bologna as our base camp for the trip. Many believe Bologna to be the culinary capital of Italy, and the food did not disappoint. The city had settlements by 1000 BCE, and the University of Bologna which was founded in 1088 CE is the oldest in Europe. There are several remaining buildings and towers erected between the 11th to 14th Centuries and Santo Stefano which was first built in the 4th and 5th centuries and have some portions of the building remaining from the 5th century.

Another great reason to stay in Bologna is its proximity to many other great locations. Easy train rides are all that is needed to visit Ferrara, Parma, Modena, Faenza, Florence, Ravenna, and Rimini Plus a short bus ride out of Rimini adds San Marino to the list of places great for day trips.
